Edmond on the GO Bond

Edmond on the GO bond program is on the ballot Nov. 5, 2024

Voters to consider a 10-year, 15 mill levy that would generate a projected $231 million to fund streets, parks and fire safety improvements

Edmond on the GO is a historic General Obligation (GO) Bond program that will fund the highest priority improvements that Edmond residents expect. On the Nov. 5, 2024, election ballot will be three separate bond proposals that would fund 22 projects in three categories – streets, parks, and fire safety. The three Edmond on the GO proposals would combine for a 10-year, 15 mill levy that would generate a projected $231 million to fund these vital projects.

If approved, this would result in a property tax increase of about $40 a month per household, based on Edmond’s median home value ($300,000). If only one or two of the questions are approved, the mill levy of 15 does not change. The duration of the tax would be shorter depending upon the total dollar amount of projects authorized by voters.

GO Bonds are a common funding method used by cities to address critical infrastructure needs. Edmond is one of the only cities of its size in Oklahoma that does not utilize a GO Bond program. Cities like Moore, Norman, Broken Arrow, Oklahoma City and Tulsa all use GO Bonds to fund projects at similar mill levy rates.

Streets: With $151 million (65% of total funding) allocated, street projects focus on improving Edmond’s roads. Projects include street resurfacing at 33 locations, intersection improvements across the City, and enhancements to pedestrian and bike lane infrastructure at key locations.

Parks: Six projects are earmarked for $70 million (30% of total funding). Highlights include improvements at Mitch Park, upgrades to youth sports facilities, a Veterans Memorial, a new park at Post Road and 2nd Street, Creek Bend Trail completion, and the replacement of playground equipment in 13 neighborhood parks.

Fire Safety: $10 million (5% of total funding) is dedicated to relocating and replacing Edmond’s oldest fire station at 1540 W. Danforth Road. The new facility will improve response times and accommodate more firefighters and equipment.

Edmond residents can vote in the GO Bond Election on November 5, 2024.
