EDMOND, OK – Edmond Library recently held a ribbon cutting with the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce to celebrate their remodel at 25 W. 3rd Street.
Edmond Mobile Meals is a volunteer-based organization that delivers nutritious meals, friendly visits and well-being checks to the homebound elderly and disabled in Edmond. Over 1.2 million meals have been delivered since the program was founded in 1974. Their service allows seniors to remain living independent in their own homes for as long as possible. Edmond Mobile Meals is the only organization that provides these services. In 2023, they served a record number of meals. Over 73,000 meals were delivered to almost 600 of Edmond’s most vulnerable, homebound seniors.
Edmond Mobile Meals currently provides nearly 300 home-delivered meals each weekday, and an average of 120 weekend meals to homebound seniors in Edmond regardless of their ability to pay for the program. Clients are accepted into the program based only on need. Edmond Mobile Meals serves clients with chronic health issues, those who cannot cook or shop for themselves, isolated individuals and those recovering from surgery, accident, or illness. In November 2023, they became sole meal provider for the Edmond Senior Center’s congregate lunch program, preparing and serving an average of 50 meals each weekday. Demand for their service has increased by 64% in the last decade.
Edmond Mobile Meals delivers more than just a meal; they combat three of aging’s most harmful threats: inadequate nutrition, isolation, and declining quality of life.
