The Youth Leadership Edmond program was created seven years ago by the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce to motivate and equip High School Juniors with leadership skills through activities and interaction with community leaders.

What is Youth Leadership Edmond?

Youth Leadership Edmond is designed to enable high school juniors the opportunity to enhance their leadership skills, gain a broader perspective of the issues in their city and take an active role in improving their community by introducing them to volunteer opportunities.

Objectives for Youth Leadership Edmond:

  • Present action-oriented, in-depth programs to acquaint students with community issues, needs, and resources.
  • Provide and encourage interaction between students, business and community leaders and decision makers.
  • Build awareness of the community’s positive aspects as well as issues the community faces to encourage voluntary participation in community affairs and activities.
  • Create the opportunity for students to make a difference in their schools and their community by using and sharing their leadership skills.
  • Provide opportunities for students from different areas to get to know one another.
  • Class participants learn from a wide variety of speakers who are experts in their fields, as well as take tours of a wide variety of community, government, business and non-profit organizations. Topics of learning and discussion focus on important issues relevant to the Edmond area. The program is not just learning by listening to experts, students receive first-hand experience by interacting with local leaders.

How can students become involved

High School Juniors who reside in the Edmond city limits and/or the Edmond Public School District and attend Edmond Public Schools, Deer Creek (Edmond residents only), private schools, or who are home schooled, and possess at least a 3.0 G.P.A. are eligible to apply.

Interested students should:

  • Demonstrate leadership or leadership potential in family, community, and/or school activities and show desire to develop additional leadership skills.
  • Express an interest in furthering their knowledge of the Edmond community.
  • Commit to full participation in Youth Leadership Edmond.
