Steve Murdock Wins Edmond Chamber 2014 Citizen of the Year
The Edmond Chamber is proud to announce the winner of the Citizens Bank of Edmond’s Citizen of the Year Award is Steve Murdock, City Attorney for the City of Edmond. Murdock has demonstrated excellence by receiving numerous professional awards bringing acclaim to Edmond.
Murdock graduated in 1979 from the University of Central Oklahoma with a degree in Political Science and an emphasis upon Municipal Management. He obtained the Juris Doctorate from OU in 1982, immediately followed by the beginning of a legal career in Norman as assistant district attorney. He then returned to Edmond to take a position in municipal government in 1986, and has served as our City Attorney since 1987. During 28 years of service in that capacity, Murdock has attained numerous recognitions, among which include the 2007 recipient of the Oklahoma Municipal League’s Don Rider Award, the City’s Excellence of Character Award, and as a Rotarian, the George Mikesell and Rotarian of the Year awards.
Murdock is president of the Oklahoma Association of Municipal Attorneys, and also serves on the Board of Trinity Legal Clinic of Oklahoma, a faith-based non-profit legal clinic that provides legal services to those in poverty.

He has given countless hours of his personal time, over a long period without seeking recognition, to a variety of community based organizations,” said Ken Moore, President and CEO of the Edmond Area Chamber of Commerce. “Steve truly exemplifies the term ‘Servant Leader’.”
The Citizen of the Year must demonstrate one or more of the following: excellence in their business or profession, brought state or national acclaim to the City of Edmond, been involved in activities for the betterment of Edmond or served through involvement with civic and service organizations. Nominations are sent to a panel of judges who decide the winner.
