State Treasurer Ken Miller Wins Edmond Chamber Citizen of the Year
The Edmond Chamber is proud to announce the winner of the 2015 Citizen of the Year Award is Ken Miller, State Treasurer of Oklahoma. Miller has demonstrated excellence by devoting his life to public service and distinguishing himself in the fields of banking, education and legislative service.
Miller earned his Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma, a M.B.A. from Pepperdine University and a bachelor’s degree in economics and finance from Lipscomb University. His fields of specialization are applied public economics and public finance effects on economic growth. As the state’s top elected financial officer, Miller protects and manages more than $22 billion of taxpayer money deposited each year, safeguards the financial health of the state, promotes responsible fiscal policy, and operates the state’s unclaimed property program.
In addition to his duties as state treasurer, Miller is a tenured economics professor at Oklahoma Christian University, where he teaches at the graduate and undergraduate levels and has been honored with the “Who’s Who Among American Teachers” award and the Merrick Foundation Award for Excellence in Teaching Free Enterprise.
“Ken Miller’s contributions to Edmond and the state of Oklahoma speak for themselves. He represented Edmond as a member of the state legislature and made lasting contributions as chairman of the House Appropriations Committee. Subsequently elected as state treasurer, and elected without opposition for his second term, he has been a strong voice for fiscal responsibility for our state. His recognition as Edmond’s Citizen of the Year is richly deserved.”
The Citizen of the Year must demonstrate one or more of the following: excellence in their business or profession, brought state or national acclaim to the City of Edmond, been involved in activities for the betterment of Edmond or served through involvement with civic and service organizations. Nominations are sent to a panel of judges who decide the winner.
