Each week, EYP recognizes new members in the organization. This group is constantly growing and changing and we love bringing in new members and fresh ideas! This week, we are excited to welcome Jessica Scott with OU Medical Center and Brady Powers with Oklahoma Fidelity Bank.

Jessica Scott

OU Medical Center Edmond

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am an Edmond native, though moved away for many years only to return in 2016 (there’s no place like home!). I enjoy cycling, kayaking, cheering for OK State football and Thunder basketball, and adventures with my chocolate lab/pit mix rescue pup Harley Quinn.

What do you like most about Oklahoma?
Oklahoma has such a big sky with the most wonderful sunsets! Even more beautiful than the scenery though are the people of Oklahoma—folks here are friendly, work hard, and know how to have fun!

What is your typical work day like?
I am a hospital-based physician assistant in Orthopedic Surgery at OU Medical Center Edmond, and my typical work day involves rounding on patients who are being monitored after a surgical procedure, or who may be in the hospital for medical reasons but also have an Orthopedic issue my team has been asked to help manage. I also spend a lot of my day in the operating room first-assisting in surgery; I work with several different surgeons who have various subspecialties, which means there is never a dull moment! I occasionally see patients who come to the emergency department with Orthopedic issues such as fractured bones. I may be biased, but I think I have the best job a medical professional could ask for, with the most skilled and kind surgeons, helpful and hard-working nurses/techs/support staff, engaged administrators, and of course, the loveliest patients.

What is one thing you can't live without?
Though I probably could live without it, one thing I wouldn’t want to live without is my Specialized Ruby road bike. I am a firm believer in the healing properties of fresh air, sunshine, and physical activity; there is also a camaraderie amongst cyclists that is really unique. Biking is also a great way to commute around town!

 Brady Powers

Oklahoma Fidelity Bank

Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a senior economics major at UCO. I love watching baseball, specifically the Cubs, and basketball,  Thunder Up! I love movies, and binge watching Netflix shows.

What do you like most about Oklahoma?
The thing I love most about Oklahoma is the growing big city feel, so the music and arts scene, increased public events, etc., but still maintaining the small-city, close-knit community feel.

What is your typical work day like?
My typical work day includes running teller transactions, helping solve problems with a customer, whether it be on their account or loan, or finding and opening/applying for an account type or loan that best suits them. I also help ensure policy and procedure compliance by performing different audits and tasks.

What is one thing you can't live without?
One thing I can’t live without is the internet. I have access to my friends and family, which keep me sane. I can read about different events happening in the world. I can access my school work, so I continue to learn. Finally, possibly most importantly, I can watch Netflix, Hulu, and different sporting events.
