GUEST POST: Top 3 Reasons Why Edmond is Dear to my Heart
Edmond Young Professionals is presented by:
Hey there, Shelby here. I’m the new intern at the Edmond Chamber of Commerce and will graduate in May from the University of Arkansas (Go Hogs!) with a degree in communications, human development, and family science. I was born and raised in Edmond by the most die-hard sooner fans you’ll ever meet.
The people who know me best would describe me as an enthusiast of all kinds, “hilariously un-athletic”, and strangely obsessed with flamingos. I spend most of my time re-decorating my room, hunting down the latest food fad, or planning my next big road trip with friends. As a twenty-something, I love to innovate and search through the latest trends of life while adding a splash of my own style.
Just a few weeks into my internship, I'm still learning the dos and don'ts of the office and answering phone calls inquiring things I rarely know the answer to. In the midst of all the chaos of starting a new internship and reconnecting with the city that I grew up in, I began to think, "What makes Edmond, Oklahoma special"? The list-lover characteristic of my type A personality came out and I immediately began to jot down the top three reasons why Edmond is dear to my heart.
1. Good Eats
I mentioned that I was a foodie right? Edmond is home to quite a few sweet treats and good eats.
Flat Tire Burgers
Kamp’s 1910 Cafe
Moni’s Pasta and Pizza
Eileen’s Colossal Cookies
Katiebugs Shaved Ice and Hot Chocolate
Rolling Ice Cream & Crepes
The Super Scoop
2. Fun Attractions
The Patriarch: a 3-story “Craft Beer House and Lawn” transformed into “the best patio in the metro” made complete with food trucks and outdoor games.
Heard on Hurd: a family-friendly festival held every third Saturday, March through October, providing locals with live music, local food, and shopping!
Drive-In Movies at the Pelican Bay Aquatic Center
Concerts and events at Hafer Park
Edmond Farmer’s Market is a great place to get locally grown produce!
3. The People
Last and most importantly is the community that encompasses the City of Edmond. As one who attends college out of state, coming home is like a breath of fresh air. Not only are the people of Edmond friendly, but they are constantly pushing one another to strive for success. This is inspiring to me, especially as a young adult entering into the professional work force. I know that if I were to stay in Edmond, I would find much more than just a place I could call home. I would find a community that would push me to become a much better version of myself. This is what makes Edmond special.
