Edmond Young Professionals is presented by:
This month, EYP acknowledges Sammy Flores for his commitment to the organization. An Edmond area resident since 2006, he has been involved in EYP for five years and has served on the Steering Committee for three years.
Sammy is the Managing Director at Crawford Family Funeral Centers (Edmond and South OKC locations) and helps families honor their loved ones during one of the most difficult times in their lives.
Can you tell us a little bit about your industry and what your favorite aspect of work is?
At Crawford, we believe that the joy of a life should never be overshadowed by the sadness of a situation. I have learned that goodbye is never an easy thing to say, but with the right people, the right perspective, and the right words, it is possible to find a bright spot even in the darkest moments. I believe every life lived is a life worth celebrating and I encourage families to allow their loved ones light to shine.
I love everything that I do and everything about my career. A highlight of my profession is being able to honor and celebrate the life of the decedent through family, friends, the sharing of stories, pictures, mementos, music and more. I’m surrounded by a fantastic team that helps me create a beautiful and meaningful event.
Spouse & number years married: Engaged to Ali Nault, with a wedding date set on Sept. 22, 2017!
Pets: I have a dog, and his name is Pelé! I adopted him about 3 years ago, and he has been such a blessing in my life!
What was the first job you ever had? The first job I ever had was mowing yards for a landscaping company back home. My favorite job, besides the one I have, was working for Jackie Cooper BMW as a service driver! I loved working there during college for a few years.
Favorite Hobby/pastime outside of work: My favorite hobbies include playing soccer and golf, hanging out with my fiancé, family and friends, watching movies, attending/watching sporting events, fishing, camping and traveling.
What is your favorite song? I love listening to music, so it’s hard to narrow one down! Depending what mood I’m in, I probably have a favorite in each genre.
What do you like best about serving as a member of the EYP Steering Committee? My favorite part about being on the EYP Steering Committee is being able to help connect young professionals together through networking, volunteering and educational events. I love being able to offer different events to young professionals at different times during the day, to help accommodate schedules, but also show value in what we offer.
What is one thing you want to accomplish before you die? There are a lot of things in my bucket list, but the main one I want to accomplish before I die is being able to help people and be an inspiration in their lives, and leave this world a little bit better than when I was here.
What is your favorite quote? “If you’re trying to achieve, there will be roadblocks. I’ve had them; everybody has had them. But obstacles don’t have to stop you. If you run into a wall, don’t turn around and give up. Figure out how to climb it, go through it, or work around it.” – Michael Jordan
