Matt is the manager of Baggerley Funeral Home and Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery. He has been a part of Edmond since Fall of 2000, when he started his first degree at Oklahoma Christian University. He is a new father to Niko Everett Boydstun, his 2-month old son and he and his wife, Sarah, will celebrate five years of marriage this May.

Can you tell us a little bit about your industry and your favorite aspect of work?

I work in what is sometimes called the Death Care Industry or the Funeral Industry, but we work with the living to honor and celebrate their loved ones who have passed away. As the manager of Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery and Baggerley Funeral Home, it is my job to ensure that my team of compassionate, skilled experts provides every family with outstanding service. Our teams specialize in providing unique service elements to truly celebrate a life like no other.

My favorite part of my job is getting to see families uplifted and encouraged by a service that reflected their loved ones’ passions and individuality. The hugs and thank-yous make it all worthwhile.

What was the first job you ever had? I mowed lawns, occasionally, but I think my first regular job was at a snow cone stand.

Favorite hobby/pastime outside of work: Hanging out with my wife and other close friends; playing games, watching movies, trying new restaurants and/or revisiting favorites. I’ve also been an extra in a few movies.

What is your favorite song? I love music, so it’s hard to narrow down. The ones that come to mind are “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea” by Neutral Milk Hotel, “Love Today” by Mika, “Happier” by Guster, and “Festival” by Sigur Rós.

What do you like best about serving as a member of the EYP Steering Committee? I haven’t been on the committee very long, but I’m already building new friendships and strengthening existing ones. I enjoy being around other young and youngish professionals who have similar goals; expanding our professional networks, enhancing our own knowledge, and serving the fantastic Edmond community of which we are blessed to be a part.

What is one thing you want to accomplish before you die? There is a growing number of people who seem to view the death of a loved one as an inconvenience to be dealt with as quickly and cheaply as possible. I’m afraid that society is beginning to lose sight of the value of friends and relatives coming together to honor, respect, and celebrate life. I hope to reverse that trend by helping families to truly celebrate their loved ones’ lives in a way that makes other people want to do the same for their loved ones. That is how I plan to leave the world a better place.

What is your favorite quote? Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo

We stopped by Baggerley Funeral Home to visit Matt and congratulate him on this EYP recognition. Although he is new to the EYP Steering Committee, he has been involved in multiple Chamber programs and is always willing to provide a helping hand when needed. Thank you Matt for your service to Edmond, the Chamber and Edmond Young Professionals!
